Egypt and Sudan have agreed to put their bilateral relations back on track after high-ranking officials held talks, reported the Kuwaiti news agency (KUNA).
In remarks broadcast by Cairo radio before he left the resort of Sharm Al Sheikh, venue of the top-level talks, Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir said that he agreed with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on promoting Egyptian-Sudanese relations in the areas of economy and commerce.
A joint statement issued at end of the talks said the two sides had agreed to elevate their joint commission to the status of a supreme committee, to be chaired by the prime minister of Egypt and the vice president of Sudan.
They also decided to hold the first meeting of the committee in Khartoum, form a mechanism to follow up on its work, and open consulates in Aswan and Port Sudan.
They recommended the formation of a common committee to examine visa applications and allow entry into the two countries by nationals with diplomatic passports.
Sudan and Egypt, in the statement, called on Israel to immediately stop its "brutal action against the Palestinian people," while condemning Israel’s settlement policy and bids to judaize Jerusalem.
Al Bashir reportedly departed from Sharm Al Sheikh to go to Brussels to take part in a conference grouping representatives of developing countries – Albawaba.com
