Sudan’s Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismael played down Sunday significance of the US decision to prolong sanctions on the country for a year, and ban US companies that deal with Khartoum from trading in the New York stock exchange, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The minister said that the US decision "has no effects, and will have no impact on Sudan's external ties.”

He added that the “sole loser will be the American investor and America itself which will lose investment opportunities in Sudan."

Khartoum had already expected such a decision, Ismael said, adding that the decision is probably linked it to the “electoral fever prevailing in the US nowadays.”

The US administration announced last week its decision to extend the sanction imposed on Khartoum since 1995.

The sanctions will be extended for another year as of November 3rd, said KUNA – Albawaba.com
