Sudan's government said the kidnappers of nine Chinese oil workers have killed five of them. According to the AP, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ali Sadiq said two kidnapped workers managed to flee their abductors, while the remaining two are still captive.

"We have informed the Chinese embassy in Khartoum," he said.

The Chinese were kidnapped October 18 in southern Kordofan province.
