ALBAWABA - After 200 days of war, over 3 million children in Sudan are suffering from the largest displacement crisis in the world as they continue to search for safety, food, shelter, and health care.

In a statement released on Monday, UNICEF warned about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan, calling for a redoubled commitment by the international community and all parties in the conflict to address the plight of millions of children and families who are living through a relentless nightmare day after day.

"Sudan is now the largest child displacement crisis in the world, with a recorded 3 million children fleeing widespread violence in search of safety, food, shelter, and health care—most within Sudan—while hundreds of thousands are sheltering in sprawling makeshift camps in neighboring countries" the statement reads.

There have been many reports of sexual violence during conflicts, including rape. Given that fighting has only gotten worse in recent weeks in regions like Khartoum, Darfur, and Kordofan, there is genuine concern that the number of child rights abuses may rise further.

Allegations of over 3,100 serious violations, including the murder and disfigurement of children, have been reported to UNICEF so far.

Roughly 7.4 million kids do not have access to clean drinking water today. With over half of them under five, they are extremely vulnerable to cholera and other diarrheal illnesses.

Approximately 700,000 children suffer from severe acute malnutrition and could die if they are not treated, while many others do not receive routine vaccines against diseases that can be readily prevented. International humanitarian law mandates the preservation of water resources and health infrastructure.
