Sudan expressed its condolences to the United States on Wednesday on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, calling for a United Nations-coordinated cooperation to fight terrorism, Sudan Television reported.
A statement from the foreign ministry described the attacks as "regrettable terroristic incidents in which thousands of innocent people were killed.
"The incident, with its obnoxiousness, represented a striking form of international terrorism that will continue threatening peace and stability in the world," the statement said. "While reckoning this painful anniversary, we are aware that we are in bad need for consolidating international cooperation and for laying down principles and arrangements for fighting and uprooting international terrorism, " it added.
Terrorism is indivisible and jeopardizes international peace and security, the statement read, arguing that its roots ought to be investigated. The war on terrorism should be waged "within the communal security and international cooperation, provided that the United Nations should be responsible for coordinating global efforts for fighting it," the ministry said, according to AFP.
It further added that the Sudanese government "renews its condolences to the families of the victims and to the US government and reaffirms its political position of fighting and rejecting terrorism of all forms and everywhere in the world." (Albawaba.com)
