Strong earthquake hits Taiwan

ALBAWABA - A strong earthquake was reported in the Taiwanese capital of Taipei on Monday evening, AFP reported.

Central Weather Administration in Taiwan declared that a 5.5-magnitude quake struck Taiwan's capital. According to authorities, the quake reported on Monday was a "magnitude-5.5 tremor originating in eastern Hualien."

According to sources, the quake was reported in the country at around 5:08 p.m. local time (0908 GMT). The shake was said to be felt in Taipei as well.

On April 3, a strong 7.4 quake struck the country leaving at least 17 people killed in landslides and buildings collapse.
