Perishable goods and construction related cargo exporters in South Asia and the Far East now have access to a third Saudi Arabian city, with SriLankan Cargo launching a twice weekly service to Jeddah.

The first commercial flight from Colombo touched down at the King Abdulaziz International Airport on March 27.

The Airbus A340 operating a commercial service, offers 13500 kg or 96 cubic meters of cargo capacity to Jeddah on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Head of SriLankan Cargo, Nalin Rodrigo said “This puts us in a unique position in operating to the three key cities in the Kingdom from our Colombo hub, giving greater access to our partners in South Asia and the Far East.”

“Our strategy has always focused on giving maximum support to our cargo partners, creating new opportunities for them to send and receive their valuable cargo more frequently.”

Key exports to Saudi Arabia include perishable commodities from Asia and construction related material from the Far East and Australia.

SriLankan Cargo’s state of the art warehousing and storage facilities coupled with one of the regions most experienced cargo teams, is fully geared to handle the time critical nature of perishable cargo.

The Middle East is an integral component in SriLankan Cargo’s network, offering its partners a primary link into the Indian subcontinent.

With nearly 100 flights a week to ten destinations in India, SriLankan Cargo has the distinction of being the foreign carrier with the most number of services into the subcontinent.

“SriLankan recently increased its frequencies into India, including the launch of a double daily service to Mumbai and a third weekly service to Goa. We are also studying the potential of adding Ahmedabad and Coimbatore to our scheduled services.”

“We need to plan for further growth, and as a preferred cargo carrier into South Asia, SriLankan Cargo is committed to give customers the best connections between the Middle East and Asia.”

As the Hub in the Ocean, SriLankan Cargo has become an integral part of the supply chain for many leading brand manufacturers, who depend heavily on just in time delivery of raw material from suppliers and finished goods to their customers.

SriLankan Cargo, with its Colombo Hub and long standing partnership with some of the leading air cargo handlers in all its markets, has proven itself as a vital link between the Far East, the Middle East and European destinations.

“We live the concept of ‘shipped as booked’, giving our partners the reliable link they so much depend on to connect them, their suppliers and their customers,” Rodrigo said.
