The flags are up and the greens have been spruced up in Kandy’s picturesque Victoria Golf and Country Resort to tee off at the12th annual SriLankan Airlines’ Golf Classic on 10th October, 2007.

“The SriLankan Golf Classic is one of our most popular events, drawing golfers from around the world. The tournament has grown to be very popular, with a large number of players coming back each year,” says Chandana De Silva, Head of Corporate Communications at SriLankan.

The tournament will begin with two practice days starting on 10th October, with the tournament teeing off on the 12th and the 13th of October, to close with a grand dinner and awards show. Over 200 golfers from around the world will play in this year’s tournament.

Participants will benefit from a series of special packages offered by SriLankan Airlines to play in the tournament, with packages ranging from 3 to 6 nights in Sri Lanka and inclusive of airfare, star rated hotel accommodation, hotel and golf course transfers, complementary practice rounds on the 10th and 11th of October, green fees, caddy fees, ball spotter fees and beverage on all competition days.

All participants will also be invited to the gala dinner and awards show on 13th October, hosted by SriLankan Airlines.

Registration for the tournament closes 20th September 2007. Slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Competitors are required to play a round each on two consecutive days for the competition. Points will be allocated for each player’s Gross and Nett Stableford scores over their two rounds.

Winners will walk away with a trophy, air travel to popular destinations in SriLankan Airlines’ network and a host of other prizes.

The course is half an hour’s drive from Kandy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the home to ancient temple that preserves the tooth relic of the Buddha and visited by millions of pilgrims each year.
