The Israeli army came under grenade attack in the Gaza Strip overnight while mortar bombs were fired at a Jewish settlement, a military spokesman said Friday, adding that no casualties were caused, said AFP.
Mortar bombs were aimed at the Dugit settlement in the northern Gaza Strip, while in the south anti-tank grenades were fired at army positions near the Gadid settlement.
Some 65 grenades were also thrown at troops at Rafah, on the border with Egypt, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Haaretz reported Friday that the three Palestinian residents of the West Bank town of Nablus were lightly injured Thursday by shots fired at them east of Ramallah by extremist Israelis.
The attack occurred Thursday night around 10 p.m. on between the Jewish settlements of Ma’aleh Mihmesh and Rimonim, which are east of Ramallah. A Palestinian taxi carrying six Nablus residents was driving on a road near the settlements, when according to the passengers, a Subaru vehicle with Israeli license plates overtook the cab and opened fire.
Two Palestinians who were injured by the shots were taken by a Red Crescent ambulance to a Ramallah hospital for treatment. Another passenger was injured by glass fragments. The cab continued to a nearby Israeli army outpost and informed the soldiers of the incident.
Police sources believe the attack was most likely carried out by Israelis, since Palestinian cabs are painted bright yellow and are thus easily identifiable. No bullets or empty casings were found at the site of the shooting, but search efforts continued Friday morning.
The paper said that many settlers have spoken in recent weeks of carrying out “revenge attacks.” Police have questioned a number of settlers for making such statements.
AFP reported on Thursday night that two Palestinians were wounded during an Israeli attack, involving heavy artillery, on the Yebna refugee camp near Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip, medical and security sources said.
The two Palestinians, one of them a 17-year-old youth, were shot and seriously wounded in the attack which took place after clashes between armed Palestinians and Israeli soldiers, witnesses said.
Security sources added that several buildings had been damaged by Israeli fire.
Palestinian medical sources also said a Palestinian was killed and three others wounded in an Israeli attack in Gaza, according to Al Jazeera satellite channel. The report was not confirmed by Israel – Albawaba.com
