Rugby fans in the region look set for a treat this month as Sabban Properties Investments has announced the launch of the Sabban Cup Rugby tournament where the region’s premier Rugby clubs - Dubai Hurricanes and Doha Rugby Club - will battle it out for the trophy. The Sabban Cup is set to become an annual fixture in the region’s sporting calendar with the inaugural match scheduled to take place on February 23, 2007, at the Doha Rugby Club field in Doha.

As the sponsor of the event, SPI will fly 90 members of the Dubai Hurricanes men's and women's team to Doha-Qatar to play against the Doha Rugby Club team in a series of matches aimed at maximising exposure to the Qatari local talent. The company will also organize a day out for families to enjoy the games with special entertainment for children.

”The GCC countries and the Middle East region as a whole have always been very passionate about football and now Rugby is fast gaining interest in this part of the world. We are glad to launch this tournament in Doha and more importantly, it will be an annual event. This initiative underlines our great interest in making this game popular and taking the Dubai Hurricanes team, which is sponsored by SPI, to new heights of popularity and performance,” said Arron Browne, Sales and Marketing Manager, Sabban Property Investments.

Our involvement with a highly popular sport such as Rugby represents another dimension of SPI and we are certain that all sporting enthusiasts will thoroughly enjoy this annual event,” added Browne.
