Spanish Foreign Minister Ana Palacio said Monday that she would visit Morocco at the end of this month in a further bid to improve the strained ties between Madrid and Rabat.

Palacio said on Spanish television she hoped the meeting with her Moroccan counterpart Mohammed Benaissa on January 30 would be a "further step" towards putting relations back at a level needed by the countries' economies and society.

In addition, she said illegal immigration is set to be at the top of the agenda, with large numbers of immigrants currently drowning in the Straits of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco in attempts to reach Europe. (Albawaba.com)
