ALBAWABA - A South Korean fighter jet accidentally dropped eight bombs in a civilian area in a South Korean town during a joint military exercise, BBC reported on Thursday.

Yonhap News Agency reported that the number of people injured in the incident rose to 15 people.

Local media stated that the initial report indicated that seven people in South Korea were injured due to the bombs, four of them are seriously wounded.

Nonetheless, news outlets in South Korea detailed that the incident occurred at around 10:04 local time in the city of Pocheon, near the border with North Korea. It involved the Air Force KF-16 fighter jet.

Pocheon authorities told the BBC that only one of the eight bombs exploded and that special teams are working to safely disposing the others.

"Our KF-16 (jet fighter) abnormally dropped 8 shells of MK-82 bombs. It landed outside of firing range," said Korea's Air Force in a statement to the British outlet.
