SouqExtra!, the national chain of community supercenters, has collaborated with Dubai Municipality and Dubai Investments Park (DIP) Management to launch a unique recycling activity at its flagship centre Ewan Residences, that aims at providing donated computers and associated electronic peripherals to deserving organizations within the community.

Jointly highlighting SouqExtra!’s commitment to environmental and social causes, the recycling drive which will last until June 1, 2010, encourages individuals and businesses to drop off old and unwanted desktop PCs, laptops, printers, scanners, monitors, USBs, mouses, keyboards, and computer cables at a dedicated collection point at SouqExtra! Ewan Residences, DIP.

The community supercentre will then arrange to have batches of the donated items sent to Dubai Municipality, who after carrying out the necessary repairs, will deliver the computers and associated peripherals to various educational institutions, social and educational charities.

“Activities that involve the community and work for its collective good lie at the core of the SouqExtra! concept,” said Mustafa Jassem, Head of Marketing, SouqExtra!.  “We are very excited about this recycling drive, which is one of the first Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives we have chosen to engage in this year. We aim to distribute flyers explaining the recycling activity within the DIP and Jebel Ali area, and hope that local families and businesses will be encouraged to donate items that have fallen into disuse to a good cause,” he added.

“It is refreshing to see a local entity initiate a recycling drive that involves the community and whose positive results will be tangibly felt within the community – whether it’s among the households and businesses who make the donations of the items, or the organizations who receive them. We are very happy to be involved in this activity which has the potential to do some genuine good within DIP,” Omar Al Mesmar, General Manager of DIP.

“We are pleased to see this activity get off the ground. We actively encourage other companies to follow SouqExtra!’s lead in organizing similar recycling drives in the future,” said Qasem Mohammed Rafi Al Qasem, Head of PC Refurbishment Center, Dubai Municipality.
