Sony Ericsson W900i is now available in leading retail stores across the region

Sony Ericsson today adds the first UMTS handset to its Walkman range of music phones bringing the total number of phones in the range to three. The W900i is a high quality, fully specified music player, phone and imaging device capable of super-fast downloads of all types of multimedia – music, video and graphics.  It follows the highly successful global market launch of the W800i.

“The W900i is an ideal companion for busy people who like to keep their gadgets simple and compact. It is for clients who require a superb variety of functions – voice calls, video conference, video streaming, text, MMS, directory and a lot more –  with excellent and smooth download speed for video, games and graphics in just one unit.,” announced  Husni El-Assi, General Manager of Sony Ericsson, Middle East and Africa.


W900i is a swivel action Sony Ericsson 3G Walkman™ phone. It has everything you need to enjoy your music on the move and it supports the latest and most advanced 3G network services. When using the Walkman player, users can easily scroll through play lists, artists or individual songs using the direct music buttons. It is easy to upload and download music into the W900i either over-the-air direct to the phone if it supports an available operator music download service, or via a PC.

The W900’s large internal 470MB user free memory provides space for between 120 and 240 songs. The storage capacity is easily increased however by inserting a Memory Stick PRO Duo, currently available in retail outlets at up to 2GB, giving space for up to 1,000 tracks. Music files can be stored in all the key formats: MP3, AAC or AAC+, MIDI, WAV and XMF.

“What’s more, the W900i’s ringtone cuts through the audio while you’re listening to a track. This is a very convenient feature which means you will not miss a single phone call,” El-Assi added. “It also comes with a two megapixel autofocus camera and LED flash, which is perfect for capturing priceless moments With the Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 2, photo enthusiasts can quickly upload, edit and send pictures to their PCs. The W900i is also loaded with Apple QuickTime Player so they can easily edit and play videos.”

The unit features the Sony Ericsson dual fronted design. This enables users to operate the unit using both hands in a horizontal position for maximum stability. The camera can shoot video at up to 30fps (frames per second), double the speed of most conventional imaging phones and the playback quality threshold for television.

“Furthermore, the Sony Ericsson W900i is the first Sony Ericsson phone that comes with a Stereo Portable Handsfree HPM-80 with remote control in the box,” added  El-Assi. “With the remote control users can operate the Walkman player without removing it from their pocket.”

A USB cable and Disc2Phone PC software for transfer and management of music files are also included in the box. The W900i UMTS Walkman phone is available in black or white.
