An Algerian soldier was killed and two others injured on Tuesday when a bomb exploded near their army vehicle on patrol in a remote part of northeastern Algeria, official sources said.
In the capital Algiers, meanwhile, police gunned down three armed Islamic extremists, including two alleged rebel leaders, according to AFP.
The incident involving the army patrol took place in the Kabylie region of the northern African country. The patrol had been part of operations in the region against a fundamentalist group called Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC). (Albawaba.com)
