Smugglers have flooded the Yemeni market with certain products, and caused the private sector in the country heavy losses, merchants complain.

The markets are flooded with goods from other countries at lower prices regardless of quality, in addition to forging and counterfeiting, the Yemen Times quoted ‘legal’ businessmen as saying.

Nouraddin Thabet, a factory owner, confirmed the current market crisis, which forced him to work with only 60 percent of production capacity, with a 40 percent loss.

For instance, his dairy factory produces only 350 thousand liters of dairy products although the real production power is 800 thousand liters daily, he said.

Owner of the group called on concerned official agencies to reconsider their related policies “which might not be fair,” especially when Yemen is about to join the World Trade Organization WTO.

He complained that the customs and consumption tax are very high and block the way of progress – Albawaba.com
