HSBC has recently celebrated the graduation of the fifth batch of UAE nationals within the “HSBC University” programme. Sixteen students completed eight months of comprehensive training that included a combination of classroom events, business projects and attachments to various branches and departments at HSBC.

The HSBC University was officially launched in February 2004 to induct UAE nationals into a specific job role following an agreed training and development programme. By enrolling in the University, staff are given clear direction and pace for their chosen career and development. A total of 107 nationals have so far attended the HSBC University, out of almost 770 UAE nationals employed by the Bank.

Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, David Hodgkinson; and Celia Daniels, Head of Human Resources hosted the graduation ceremony which was attended by Mr Abdul Rahim Sultan from Tanmia and senior HSBC managers. Certificates were presented to all successful candidates. In addition, the ‘Best Trainee Award’ was given to Eman Ibrahim for being the highest achiever.

Commenting on her experience, Eman Ibrahim said: “I consider myself lucky to have attended the HSBC University’s training programme. It is the first step in my career and I have gained ample experience. The extensive classroom and on-the-job training received and skills gained have contributed to our betterment and we have achieved a milestone in our lives.”

“HSBC’s growth plans in the UAE depend to a large extent on the deployment of the right local talent at the right positions. Therefore, we are constantly offering our new and existing staff the best in-house training at our Regional Training Centre and practical
training in various departments. We welcome the sixteen UAE nationals to the ranks of HSBC,” said Celia Daniels, Head of Human Resources, HSBC.

In addition to local training under the HSBC University umbrella, the Bank offers future UAE national executives of the Bank the opportunity to attend HSBC Group’s Graduate Development Programme at the Group’s learning centre in the UK.
