An ambush Saturday on the Syrian side of the border with Lebanon killed at least six rebels, a Lebanese security source said, adding that nine other people were wounded in the attack.

The ambush occurred on Syrian territory, near the northeastern Lebanese town of Arsal, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

The wounded were transferred to Universal Hospital in Ras Baalbek, east Lebanon, the source added.

Lebanon and Syria share a porous border stretching some 330 kilometers long.

The National News Agency reported that Syrian warplanes had struck Kherbet Daoud, east of Arsal, leading to the killing of six and wounding of nine Syrians, including women and children.
