Six people were killed in Yemen on Saturday including five Yemeni soldiers and an army captain during battles with fighters in the northwestern Yemen. The deaths bring last week's death toll to 22.
According to anonymous local sources, the battles resulted from reprisal attacks by the government in the town of Saada, near the border with Saudi Arabia, according to Al Jazeera and Agencies.
Sixteen of the 22 killed were government forces, said the source, while earlier in the month, another 18 Yemenite soldiers were killed in clashes.
The fighting, which has taken the lives of more than 600, began in June 2004 when rebel Shiite cleric Husain Badr Al Din Al Huthi lead an uprising against the government.
Al Huthi was subsequently killed in September.
His followers have continued to resist the government, while Yemenite troops have attacked them in an attempt to quell the rebellion.
