Shell companies in UAE have announced their participation at the sixth annual Careers UAE 2006 Exhibition through their presence at Stand G5 in Hall 6 at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, where the event will be held from April 23 to 25.

The exhibition is being held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, and the Chairman of Dubai World Trade Center.

Hussain Al Mahmoudi, Head of External Affairs & HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment), Shell said: “The presence of Shell companies at the Careers UAE 2006 Exhibition demonstrates Shell’s commitment to aiding the socio-economic development of the UAE and of the community in which it operates.”

“By partnering with the UAE government to provide proper training and facilitate the employment of its citizens, Shell fulfills the objectives of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy. Our participation in the fair enables Shell to contribute significantly to Emiratisation through the development of effective job skills and competencies among young Nationals, and preparing them to take up responsible positions in the country’s growing economy,” he added.

Through its participation, Shell seeks to boost efforts for achieving targets set for the training and recruitment of UAE Nationals under the ongoing federal programme for Emiratisation. By interacting with job seekers, government organisations and educational institutions, Shell will work to increase the number of Nationals employed in its group companies.

Careers UAE 2006 Exhibition will bring together 125 companies as part of its goal of encouraging partnership between industry and education towards generating employment for National men and women. The event also features presentations by prominent speakers on diverse issues pertaining to the domestic economy, labour market and job opportunities for the local population.

In keeping with its social obligations, Shell has initiated and supported several such community measures for nurturing a pool of qualified, talented UAE Nationals capable of guiding their country and the region through the 21st century.

Modelled on its LiveWIRE initiative, the Intilaaqah programme is the foremost of Shell’s efforts to stimulate and encourage young people from the region to start their own businesses. This it does by providing assistance, training and advice on feasibility studies to those who want to establish and run their own ventures.

“The programme celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit by helping the UAE’s young citizens to recognise the potential for entrepreneurship within them and to become the business people of tomorrow, thus sustaining the country’s economic growth and ensuring its prosperity”, said Al Mahmoudi.

Another important programme that Shell runs is the Annual Emirates Businesswomen Award (EBWA). The Award recognises and celebrates the vital role that women in the UAE play in both the business and professional spheres and helps them to achieve their full potential.
