As the main gate of the IT sector in the region, Dubai will initially target a 20 percent GDP component from IT and knowledge-based sectors, according to Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Addressing delegates to the Dubai Strategy Forum on Dubai Vision 2010, Sheikh Mohammad stressed the increasingly important role being played by the services sector.
He also urged better use of the UAE's human resources and highlighted the importance of teamwork in attaining economic targets, said the Gulf News.
Sheikh Mohammad focused his keynote speech at the inaugural session of the event on changes in the global economy, their possible impact on Dubai, and prospects for the future.
According to Sheikh Mohammad, the Dubai Internet and Media complexes and e-government site are only the first steps into the age of New Economy.
"We have many more ambitious goals still to achieve," said Sheikh Mohammad, who is also the UAE's defense minister.
He was quoted by the Dubai-based paper as saying that Dubai Vision 2010 would focus on its primary growth areas such as IT and telecommunications, services, human resources development, and a cluster of economic and social aspects aimed at bridging the gap between the state and private sectors.
According to Mohammed Al Gargawi, the director general of Dubai Technology, the forum is an exclusive gathering of some of the most prominent strategic thinkers of the world and many important personalities in Dubai - Albawaba.com
