Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed chairs Khalifa University’s Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee meeting

Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court and Deputy Chairman to the Board of Trustees of Khalifa University for Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR), reaffirmed that the UAE, led by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, pays great attention to the educational system. This is due to its significant role in the implementation of the UAE’s development strategy and which meets the challenges of the technology era.

 

Sheikh Hamed commended General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of KUSTAR’s Board of Trustees, directives to position UAE among the most advanced nations in the fields of research, communication, science and technology, and to prepare the UAE’s youth for the field of technology.

 

 Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed stated that universities play an active and vital role in transforming the UAE into a regional destination for higher education and research, in addition to the educational, social and economic values they bring to the community. His Highness also asserted the essential role of higher education in developing a specialized workforce and a rich environment for emerging researchers and future leaders.

 

This came during a meeting held by Khalifa University’s Board of Trustees’ Executive Committee at the Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Court headed by His Highness Sheikh Hamed Bin Zayed, in the presence of Trustee members, Dr. Mughair AL Khaili,  Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi and Engineer Hussain Al Hammadi, in addition to Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, KUSTAR’s Interim President and Dr.  Mohamed Ibrahim Al Mualla, KUSTAR’s Interim Provost.

 

During the meeting, the Committee approved KUSTAR’s budget, and reviewed the approved master plan of KUSTAR’s new campus that is to be built in the Capital City District in Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi. The Committee also reviewed the University’s academic plan for 2010/2011 as well as the MoUs and partnerships struck with local, regional and international establishments. They also discussed KUSTAR’s growth strategies.

 

Moreover, the committee reviewed the latest developments of the UAE’s Advanced Network for Research and Education (ANKABUT), which inter-connects numerous public and private universities, colleges, schools and other learning and research institutions in the UAE and with their international counterparts. KUSTAR’s Board also discussed the establishment of an advisory council to the University and its upcoming College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
