Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon told the central bureau of his Likud Party on Thursday evening that the government would continue its current policies in the Occupied Territories, which he dubbed "anti-terror commando," reported the Tel Aviv-based Haaretz newspaper.

"There will not be any immediate end. This is an ongoing thing. There will be more terror and there will be more difficult times," he said.

His remarks came as his forces killed eight Palestinians in two days and kidnapped a number of Intifada activists in continuing incursions into PA-ruled lands.

The Likud's central bureau is known as the most extreme body in the party. The bureau is currently headed by Public Security Minister Uzi Landau, said Haaretz.

Over 700 Palestinians and more than 180 Israelis have been killed in the latest uprising against 34 years of Israeli military occupation.

Sharon won a landslide victory over opponent Ehud Barak by promising to end the conflict and guarantee security for ordinary Israelis within a matter of months of his becoming premier – Albawaba.com
