The sentences of seven Emirati customs officials jailed for corruption, embezzlement and bribe-taking were reduced Sunday by the Dubai appeal court, reported the Gulf News.
The sentence of Obaid Busit, former chief of Dubai customs department, was reduced from 27 years to 11, and that of Ali Hassan Foulath from 31 years to 15, said the paper.
The two had been convicted on April 18 by the Dubai court of first instance on corruption charges.
The appeal court upheld the lower court's order that the two men be fined a total of Dh7.11 million ($2m) and that they return Dh3.9 million ($1.06m) which they had stolen or accepted in bribes, said the paper.
The Appeal Court also upheld the deportation of three Pakistani convicts after serving their sentences, said the paper -- Albawaba.com
