Senior Dubai Official Sentenced to 27 Years for Corruption

The director-general of Dubai ports and customs in the United Arab Emirates, Obaid Saqer bin Busit, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison after being found guilty of corruption, said reports.  

He was convicted along with six other customs officials, one of whom was sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison. 

The sentence of Ali Fulaz is likely to shock the local community with its severity, said the BBC.online.  

Five others, including three Pakistani nationals, were given between three and seven years.  

A Lebanese employee was acquitted, said the news service.  

The men were arrested in February amid much official publicity on the orders of the Crown Prince, Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum.
