A top official of the Democratic Front for the liberation of Palestine (DFLP), Kais Abdel Karim, was injured Friday by an Israeli bullet during clashes in the West Bank city of Ramallah, the group said Saturday.

The Damascus-based Palestinian party issued a statement Saturday saying political bureau member Abdel Karim "was shot in the thigh by Israeli soldiers during clashes Friday in Ramallah between Palestinians and the Israeli security forces".

The statement called on Yasser Arafat's Palestinian authority to "give arms to the Palestinian people, because the Zionist enemy is killing Palestinians without discrimination".

Nayef Hawatmeh's DFLP is one of the three main components of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which is dominated by Arafat's Fatah faction -- DAMASCUS (AFP)
