Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance

Ahmad Masjed Jamei in a meeting with Senegal`s President Abdoulaye Wade on Saturday, handed him a message from President Mohammad Khatami.

During the meeting, Masjed Jamei referred to the positive results of President Wade`s recent visit to Iran in preparing the ground for expansion of relations between the African and Asian continents and hoped that the next trip of the Iranian president to Senegal will

contribute to the implementation of the mutually reached agreements, IRNA reported.

He pointed to the formation of the Special African Headquarters by Tehran as one of the measures taken to the effect.

Turning to the success of Iranian cinema over the past three decades and its second ranking after the U.S. for being awarded international cinematic prizes, he said, "The spiritual concept of Iranian films,

which is rooted in our national and religious identity, mainly accounts for the achievement of its cinema."

For his part, President Wade referred to the background of mutual relations and said that despite being a colony for a long time, Senegal has safeguarded its cultural and African identity and is still attempting to promote it.

"Given its several thousand years of civilization, Iran can contribute to promoting the cultures of other lands," he added. (Albawaba.com)
