The Saturday edition of a Sudanese independent newspaper was confiscated by security before it could appear on newsstands, the paper's general manager said.
Al-Haj Warraq told AFP news agency that security officials visited the printing press used by al-Horiya daily after midnight Friday, as they "do from time to time", and confiscated the paper's front and back pages, saying that they would return them later after going through them.
"Until 8 a.m. today, the pages have never been returned and therefore we could not come out," Warraq said, adding that the security officials did not tell them why the pages were confiscated.
Authorities in Sudan have in the past subjected certain newspapers to occasional censorship, although Warraq said that al-Horiya had not previously lost any issues since it began publishing some ten months ago. (Albawaba.com)
