Protesters clashed with Yemeni security forces for a second day Thursday after the Yemeni government cut subsidies on oil products, At least 16 people died and 30 wounded.
Demonstrators clashed with security forces around government buildings, including oil ministry offices, in different provinces and set shops and cars on fire.
In Sa'adah, 125 miles northwest of the capital, Sana'a, medical officials reported three people were killed and seven were wounded. Witnesses said two of the injured were security force members.
In Sana'a, army tanks lined the main streets and surrounded the offices of the Cabinet, the ruling party and radio and television buildings. According to The AP, one protester was killed during riots in a poor southeastern neighborhood, witnesses said.
Protesters set two army cars on fire in Lawdar, a town 155 miles southeast of Sana'a. Protests also erupted in the north in Marib, and in central cities including Ibb and Radaa, and in the Red Sea port city of Hudaydah. At least 12 people killed in the cities of Marib, Dali and Taaz in the south and Hudaydah, according to police and medical officials.
At least 13 people were killed on Wednesday in the first day of the riots.
