ALBAWABA- Two Saudi soldiers were injured when an armored vehicle escorting the convoy of Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, overturned on the Karba-Al-Sahhi road.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning as the convoy was en route to Taiz Governorate, marking Al-Alimi's first visit to the region in over a decade.
Al-Alimi, accompanied by several vice presidents of the Presidential Council and key government officials, is leading an official visit to Taiz, which has not seen a Yemeni president in more than 10 years.
The convoy, including military leaders from the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, was met with a warm reception by local authorities and residents in the city of Al-Turba, west of Taiz.
This visit holds significant political and social importance, coming at a time when Taiz is grappling with complex security and humanitarian challenges due to the ongoing war and blockade imposed by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia since 2015.
The deteriorating infrastructure and essential services in Taiz have highlighted the city's dire situation, making Al-Alimi's visit a notable gesture of the new leadership's commitment to the region.
The last time a Yemeni president visited Taiz was in 2015, when former President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi inspected the battlefronts in the south of the city.
