Saudi police arrested an armed man who entered the Qatari consulate in the Red Sea port of Jeddah Thursday to seek asylum, a Qatari official said.
Ibrahim al-Mughaseeb, the Qatari consul-general, told The Associated Press the gunman was seeking asylum in Qatar. He said no shots were fired and that the man, who was not identified, did not intend to harm anyone in the office.
Al-Mughaseeb added Saudi police charged with protecting the consulate took the man away. He described the man as "not violent and not aggressive," and said he expressed "good feelings toward Qatar" during a brief conversation.
The consul-general didn't say why the man sought asylum, and said he didn't know what kind of weapon he carried. (Albawaba.com)
