Saudi minister of interior Prince Naif bin Abdelaziz brushed aside Monday the idea of Saudi POWs in Iraqi jails saying "we do not demand from Iraq the return of Saudi POWs."
Speaking to Saudi press agency Monday as he prepared to leave for Beirut to attend meeting of the Arab ministers of interior, he commented on Iraq’s invitation to for a Kuwaiti-Saudi committee to search for POWs in Iraq claimed t have been detained since the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, saying "Kuwait’s concern about its POWs in Iraq is well-known and documented, but it does not match letter for letter that of Saudi Arabia’s."
He noted that the Saudi detainees, about 100, and their families held by American authorities on Guantanamo base in Cuba were being closely watched by Saudi authorities.
He denied, however, American media reports that Saudi authorities, in conjunction with the FBI have routed a cell belonging to al Qaeda organiza! tion located west of Saudi Arabia.
He also denied reports that American soldiers in Saudi Arabia are maltreated by Saudi authorities, nor are Muslim clerics being rounded up and questioned about making fiery sermons to impressionable Saudi youth. (albawaba.com)
