Saudi-led coalition warplanes Monday accidentally targeted pro-government positions in southern Yemen, killing 12 people on the first day of a humanitarian truce, AFP reported.

A military source speaking with AFP said the raids targeted forces in Lahej province where Saudi-backed troops loyal to exiled Yemeni president Hadi have been advancing on Houthi rebels.

Witnesses and sources in the pro-government Popular Resistance militia confirmed the raids, AFP reported.

Leadership in Riyadh was unavailable to AFP for comment.
