Saudi Arabia's King Fahd bin Abdulaziz has highlighted the need to combat "extremist ideologies" which led some Saudi youth into joining "terrorist" groups. In his speech Saturday at the inaugural session of the 19th meeting for the International Supreme Mosques Council, read on his behalf, King Fahd said the mosque advocates security, peace and cooperation among the people.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is keen on preaching the great values of Islam through enabling the mosques to advocate values of justice, tolerance and cooperation among the people," said the King, according to reports in the local press on Sunday.
The King pointed out that the convening of the 19th session for the International Supreme Mosques Council comes amid critical circumstances in the Muslim world. He noted that the crimes of "terrorism" are committed by people who have deviated from the proper teaching of Islam. "The terrorists have shed bloods of innocent people and terrorized them," he said and added, "only the enemies of Islam benefit from the terror acts."
King Fahd said the "terrorists" have defamed Islam and Muslims, and opened the doors wide for launching biased campaigns against the Islamic creed.
King Fahd underlined the importance of the containment of the phenomenon of "terrorism" through enabling the mosques perform their proper role. "The role of the mosques is enabling the people to get acquainted with the proper principles of Islam, far away from extremism," he said. The King said the role of the mosque is to advocate security, peace and cooperation, and to refrain from injustice and aggression. "The message of the mosque is realization of moderation and to urge the people to keep away from extremism," he noted. (Albawaba.com)
