Reuters reports that masked assailants threw firebombs at an intelligence-gathering compound in the eastern city of Qatif, Saudi Arabia, on Monday.
According to Reuters, a Saudi Interior Ministry official confirmed the attack, stating that "there was a failed terrorist attempt to burn the building with Molotov cocktails." He further stated that at least one attacker was captured.
An unconfirmed video dated January 9 circulated social media, displaying masked men throwing firebombs over the outer wall of a building compound. The video contained a note that the attack was done by Shia youth as revenge for the execution of Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, a prominent Shia cleric from Qatif.
The video's authenticity has not been verified. No organized group has claimed the attack.
The extent of damage is unknown, and the Saudi government is not reporting any casualties.
