Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal is to hold talks in Washington this week on the Middle East with US Secretary of State Colin Powell, a US official said Tuesday.
The prince is scheduled to meet with Powell on Friday at the State Department as Washington continues to press for renewed dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians, the official told AFP.
Prince Saud's visit follows trips in the US by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak last week and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon this week.
The US position on the Mid-East, as well as plans for the much-anticipated peace conference are expected to top the agenda for Prince Saud's talks in Washington, the US official added.
The United States has long looked to Riyadh, along with Cairo and Amman, to exert pressure on Yasser Arafat, the Palestinians and other Arabs to advance Middle East peace efforts. (albawaba.com)
