Saudi Arabian authorities on Friday beheaded a local man for killing a fellow citizen following a dispute, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

It was at least the 27th execution in the conservative kingdom this year, according to Reuters.

Saudi Arabia implements strict Islamic Sharia laws, executing murderers, rapists and drug smugglers, usually by public beheading.

At least 121 people were executed in the country last year, most of them expatriates, added Reuters.

According to Sharia, if a reconciliation is reached between the family of the murderer and his victim’s family, the ultimate punishment is not be carried out.

The kingdom has been under frequent fire from human rights groups for the death penalty, criticism which the Saudi authorities flatly reject -- Albawaba.com
