Saudi Arabia will soon embark on a major international expressway project linking the country with Yemen in the south and Jordan in the north, reported the official Yemeni news agency, Saba, on Wednesday.

Saudi Communication Minister Nasser Al Salloum was quoted as saying that the government had made allocations for the project in the current budget, and added that the road would pass by Tewal, Jizan, Darb, Qunfuda, Jeddah, Yambu and north Aqaba.

The minister said the new road, the cost of which is estimated to be SR36 million (approximately $8 million), would pass by Yemen’s Tihama mountains and thus reduce traffic on the Hada Road.

The Arab World is gearing up to become a free market in the next decade, and regional governments are struggling to ensure that the appropriate infrastructure is in place to match legislation – Albawaba.com
