Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have agreed to enhance their defense ties, reported the Middle East Newsline (MENL) on Saturday.
The news service said that the two countries would increase their cooperative military training and set up their first joint industrial defense project.
Defense sources said the two countries would work to improve their military exercises and training.
This includes the main exercise, termed the Sea Breeze naval maneuvers. The last such exercise was held in January, according to MENL.
Saudi official newspapers have also highlighted the first defense project with Pakistan, the establishment of a weapons factory near Riyadh, MENL added.
The Riyad-based Al Watan daily quoted Saudi military sources as saying that the factory would first produce such weapons as automatic and semi-automatic machineguns as well as ammunition.
The plant will eventually expand production to other weaponry, the newspaper said on Tuesday, cited by the news service.
Pakistan is regarded as the closest Muslim ally to Saudi Arabia.
