Gunmen opened fire Wednesday on a car carrying at least one American in western Saudi Arabia, a Western diplomat said.

The diplomat's account came shortly after reports that gunmen opened fire on a car carrying at least one American outside a compound in Riyadh that is used by members of the U.S. military.

"The car was coming out of the compound with three passengers when small arms fire opened up on the vehicle," Dow Jones Newswires quoted an unidentified security official as saying. It said the official had spoken to residents of the compound.

The passengers were not believed to have been injured, he was quoted as saying.

The attack took place at the Iskan compound, on the southern outskirts of Riyadh, where some U.S. military advisers to the Saudi National Guard live, Dow Jones said.

Meanwhile, Saudi forces have killed two armed men after clashes in the city of Taif, security sources said. Al Arabiya TV network said the men were wanted by the authorities but were not linked to the latest shooting spree and siege in Khobar. (Albawaba.com)
