Sama Dubai Supports COPEDEC 2008 Summit in Dubai

As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting environmental initiatives, Sama Dubai, the international real estate investment and development arm of Dubai Holding, today announced it will be the platinum sponsors for the 7th International Conference on Coastal and Port Engineering in Developing Countries (COPEDEC 2008).

To be held in Dubai Festival City from 24-28 February, the conference is organised by Dubai Municipality.

COPEDEC 2008 seeks to provide an international forum for coastal and port engineers from developing countries to share their know-how and experience with counterparts from industrialised countries. More than 1,000 marine engineers and scientists from developing countries will attend the conference that will be built around an overarching theme of, ‘Best Practices in the Coastal Environment’. As many as 226 papers from 43 countries, of them 14 from the UAE, will also be discussed at the event.

The conference comes at a time when the coast of Dubai is witnessing fast-paced development. Recent studies have indicated that new waterfront projects have extended the emirate's coastline from 73 km to 1,500 km.

In 2006, Sama Dubai participated as strategic sponsors in the symposium on ‘Challenges and Threats to the Environment - Lessons from the Past to Shape the Future’, highlighting its commitment to environmental protection.
