Sahara Centre – the leading family shopping and entertainment destination in the UAE and one of Sharjah’s prominent landmarks – today completed installation work of the pedestrian overpass that will help people cross the Al Nahda Street, safely. The bridge was installed early morning on Friday and will provide a safe crossing for pedestrians and easy access to Sahara Centre.

The bridge, built at an estimated cost of AED7 million, has been installed at a height of 6.5 metres and spans 48 metres on the busy Al Nahda Street. The bridge has a structural steel frame, equipped with steel deck flooring and a metal panel wall with roof cladding. It is accessible from the sidewalks by elevators and staircases.

Jean Pierre Nammour, Managing Director of Sahara Centre, said, “The rate of accidents on the Al Nahda road went up at an alarming rate last year. Considering the safety of the pedestrians crossing the road and while enabling easy access to our customers, we  pursued this project. We are optimistic and confident that this contribution will eliminate these accidents.”

Commenting on the installation, Rima Chammas, Marketing Manager, Sahara Centre, said, “We are extremely happy that the new bridge will soon provide an ideal walkway solution to pedestrians. Customer satisfaction has always been an integral part of our success and we aim that as we grow, we are able to keep up to the expectations of our customers and also emerge as a mall with a difference”

The bridge installation coincides with the commencement of the Sharjah Spring promotion and customers at Sahara Centre can look forward to some interesting events, promotions and offers”.

The installation of the pedestrian bridge is part of Sahara Centre’s pioneering community initiative and an integral part of its AED4 billion Sahara City project. The project will be more than double the size of the landmark shopping destination and will provide a major impetus to Sharjah’s tourism and investments plans.

The bridge has been designed by architectural and engineering consulting company Khatib & Alami and built by Al Nimr Contracting.
