Russian tanker 'MIDVOLGA 2' attacked off the coast of Turkey

ALBAWABA - A Russian tanker, named MIDVOLGA 2, was attacked off the coast of Turkey, Russian media outlets reported on Tuesday.

Initial reports revealed that MIDVOLGA-2 was attacked 80 miles offshore of Turkey.

The Russian tanker was en route from Russia to Georgia with a load of sunflower oil. 

The Republic of Turkey Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure posted on X, "The MIDVOLGA-2 tanker, while sailing from Russia to Georgia loaded with sunflower oil, has reported that it was attacked 80 miles off our coasts."

It added, "The ship, which currently has no adverse conditions among its 13 personnel, has no request for assistance. The ship is proceeding towards Sinop with its engines."

The party behind the attack is unknown; however, several Russian accounts on social media blamed Ukraine for being behind it.
