AFP reports that if Arab forces enter the Syrian conflict, it could spark a "new world war", according to Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

He continued by asking the German business daily Handelsblatt, "The Americans and our Arabic partners must think hard about this: do they want a permanent war? Do they really think they would win such a war very quickly?"

According to AFP, the Russian PM added: "All sides must be forced to the negotiating table instead of sparking a new world war."
