ALBAWABA - Russia carried out an airstrike on a prison, leaving at least 17 people killed and dozens more injured in central Ukraine overnight Monday, Kyiv said Tuesday.
According to Ukrainian officials, at least 42 others were wounded in the attack on the jail.
The attack on the Ukrainian jail comes a day after the United States intensified calls for Moscow to end its war in the country.
Russia carried out eight attacks on the Zaporizhzhia region, striking a detention facility and damaging nearby houses, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the regional military administration.
Moreover, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that a Russian airstrike on a prison in Ukraine was "not accidental" and that Russia "must be compelled to stop the killing and make peace."
"It was a deliberate strike, intentional, not accidental. The Russians could not have been unaware that they were targeting civilians in that facility," Zelensky said in a statement on social media.
