Russia releases detained US citizen ahead of Riyadh talks

ALBAWABA - The Kremlin announced that Russia released a US citizen who was briefly detained at a Moscow airport for allegedly travelling into Russia with cannabis gummy candy.

The release of American man Kalob Wayne Byers came one day before US-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia which aimed at improving ties.

AFP reported that Kalob Wayne Byers was arrested on Friday, as Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said: "As on Tuesday the restoration of relations will be discussed, these events can be seen in that context."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in addition to Russian President Vladimir Putin's top diplomatic adviser Yuri Ushakov will leave for Riyadh on Monday for the meeting, the Russian presidency confirmed.

US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce revealed that "Secretary of State Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will meet with a Russian delegation in Riyadh Tuesday".

On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, the Ukrainian presidency revealed on Sunday.
