The official spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Mikhail Kamenin, praised the initiative that was launched by Jordan in September 2004, through a call by Muslim scholars, to confront extremism.
"The Jordanian initiative, which was welcomed by the Russian leadership, laid a good base for cooperation to enhance interfaith dialogue and establish partnership relations among cultures," he said.
Kamenin affirmed in a statement to the Russian Novosti News Agency on the occasion of King Abdullah's visit to Russia, the strong relations between the two countries and their "identical views regarding major regional issues such as the Middle East crisis and the situation in Iraq."
He noted the active role played by Jordan on the international level to solve crises.
