ALBAWABA - At least nine people were killed in a Russian attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, AFP reported on Thursday. Dozens were also wounded in the airstrike.
According to AFP journalists, heavy explosions were heard over Kyiv at around 1 a.m. local time after air raid sirens rang out across the capital, warning residents to stay in shelters.
At least nine were killed and over 60 others were injured in the Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital, Ukraine's State Emergency Service mentioned. Sources revealed that this is one of the deadliest attacks since the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022.
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on the strike, saying that it proves Vladimir Putin's 'desire 'to continue the war'.
He posted several photos showing the aftermath of the strike and wrote: "Yesterday’s Russian maximalist demands for Ukraine to withdraw from its regions, combined with these brutal strikes, show that Russia, not Ukraine, is the obstacle to peace. Moscow, not Kyiv, is where pressure should be applied.
Ukraine's capital experienced a particularly horrible and loud night. As of now, 9 civilians have been reported killed in Kyiv and over 70 injured, including 6 children.
Other cities and communities across Ukraine were targeted with Russian missiles and drones in the middle of the night, killing and injuring civilians."
Sybiha maintained: "Putin demonstrates through his actions, not words, that he does not respect any peace efforts and only wants to continue the war. Weakness and concessions will not stop his terror and aggression. Only strength and pressure will."
