Russia has criticized the US for plans to arm Syrian rebels against President Bashar al-Assad.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was quoted by Reuters as saying "If our American partners are now focusing on arming the opposition and are sharing plans.. to strike Syrian government positions, then this, of course, runs against agreements to hold a conference".
"That goes against our joint iniative", he added, in reference to efforts back in May between Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry to organize an international peace conference on Syria.
However Congress has now facilitated President Barack Obama's ability to arm rebels.
According to a top US military officer, US Forces are now able to train the latter, enforce no-fly zones over Syria, as well as conduct limited attacks on military targets, Reuters reported.
