Four rockets were fired at Israel from the Lebanese port of Tyre on Thursday, a Lebanese security source told AFP.
Witnesses reported explosions near the northern Israeli town of Nahariya, the news agency reported.
"Unknown gunmen fired four rockets from two positions, south and east of Tyre, at Israel," the source said as residents in the area said they heard four blasts.
The Israeli army confirmed its Iron Dome defense system had intercepted a Lebanese rocket, and that police was advising people from the area to remain close to bomb shelters, AFP said.
Rockets have been fired into Israel fairly regularly by militant groups since the Israel-Hezbollah war back in 2006.
It was unclear at this stage who was behind the attacks, although an Israeli army spokesman told the BBC that Hezbollah did not carry out the attack.
Instead, Israel believed "global jihad organisations" were behind the attack, the army spokesman said.
